The PROMASTER XC-M 522C tripod’s 5-section, transverse legs fold 180° making the entire unit just over 12″ long for storage and travel. Yet, fully extended it reaches a comfortable working height. Each leg’s angle and length are independently adjustable, allowing the XC-M 522C to properly support your optics in rough terrain. Its dual-action ball head is relatively strong, precise, and extremely lightweight with an independent pan control. It has an integrated memory lock for repeatable tension control and uses ProMaster’s dovetail quick release system for quickly mounting scopes or binoculars.

This is another great backpacking tripod for sit-down glassing and can support up to 65 mm spotting scopes possibly larger if the wind isn’t too bad and you don’t intend to max out height with the double center columns. I’d recommend an angled spotting scope with this tripod so you can keep it lower and ideally keep the columns all the way down.

I’ve put a lot of miles on these ProMaster Tripods, but this is a newer model to me. It’s one of the most compact options out there because of the way the legs invert over the column which is a nice feature especially if you fly with them or want to carry them in a smaller day-pack.

ProMasters are a good value. If you want a keeper, let us know and I’ll be happy to send a new or used kit in the original box. New kits retail at $249.00 and our used ones are typically about $235 because we usually sell them before they get rented more than 2 or 3 times, and thus, our “used” tripods are typically in “like-new” condition.

The kits (tripod and ball-head) aren’t for sale individually, but if you wanted to pair this tripod with another pan-head like the Sirui VA-5, we would make you a deal on the combo. If you didn’t want the ball head I’d give you $20 credit toward new, or $15 toward a used tripod purchase with another head.
