Vortex Razor LH 3-15×42 Rifle Scope HSR-4 MOA Reticle

The Vortex Razor LH provides outstanding optical performance in a lightweight, rugged, and beautifully simple design - with all the features you need to get the job done at any distance you're capable of shooting.  Capped tactical turrets allow you to make elevation adjustments accurately over a 55 MOA range and parallax adjustments run from 20 yards to infinity.  This allows you to focus your target perfectly whether you're in a treestand or ground blind set in dense cover or casting your crosshairs on the distant horizon in huge western expanses.

The Razor HD LH is the ideal optic for the hardcore hunter that doesn’t want a heavy, complicated scope with a busy reticle that’s more suited to competition and tactical applications.  You can keep it simple and still get the best possible optical quality and long range capabilities in a lightweight and simple package.

Extreme mountain hunters who prefer simplicity and durability will appreciate its svelte 16.5 oz weight and streamlined profile of the low, capped turrets providing security against inadvertently spinning a dial during a hunt. These features are combined with the incredible optical performance of high-end Razor series glass. It’s everything you need to be successful in harsh, remote conditions, and nothing you don’t. When it comes to the hunt of a lifetime, you can trust a Razor HD LH on your rifle.

Used scope includes Vortex Pro Series 1″ – low (0.75″) rings for picatinny rails.

Add a bubble level (professionally installed) on your scope to ensure you never miss due to shooting with your rifle canted for $35.00 USE PROMO CODE: “ADDLEVEL” at check-out to get the level and add the $35 charge.

These scopes are down-right impressive in terms of their light weight and excellent optics.  We have run these on rental rifles at RgunsNgear.com with 100% success.  They hold zero, return to zero when dialed, and dial accurately as tested out to 1200 yards, matching perfectly with the reticle subtensions, and ballistic charts on every rifle.

The HSR-4 MOA reticle has plenty of capability with minimal clutter or distraction.  I personally like a capped or locking turret to prevent any possibility of a turret getting moved while dragging a rifle through brush or having it strapped on a backpack.  The low profile turrets make getting it in and out of a soft-case or scabbard much easier.

Overall these scopes are very good in every aspect, but I have a few minor complaints:

  • The turret clicks are not very distinct.  You might miss counting a click if you’re not looking at the dial.  I prefer very positive, tactile, and even audible confirmation at each step as I move the dial so I don’t necessarily have to be looking at it when I make an adjustment.
  • The the power adjustment ring and parallax adjustment are a little too stiff, requiring a fair bit of effort to rotate them initially.  They both loosen up after working them back and forth several times, but they seem to get stiff again after not being adjusted for a few days.  I suspect with more use they’ll free-up and be just right, but all our used scopes are practically new.   You can add a Vortex Switchview throw lever to make adjusting the ring much easier.
  • Finally, the parallax scale doesn’t seem to line up all that accurately with where the scope focuses for my eye, but this is extremely common and really the norm in my experience.  I’m not sure if that’s a knock on the scope or my eyes and the way they focus.  I always focus the scope while looking through it and don’t pay that much attention to the yardage number on the dial.  That said, it would be nice to be able to spin the parallax knob to a distance mark where you expect your shot to appear and have it be perfectly focused when the time comes to send one.  It’s not “way” off by any means, but it’s rarely on the exact number corresponding to the distance I’m shooting, except at the low end of the scale.

I can definitely recommend these scopes as we’ve never had an issue with one, and all of our customers have been happy with them, harvesting several animals well beyond normal rifle range without a single lost zero or tracking issue.  There’s something to be said for keeping it simple and these scopes will do that for you while delivering top tier optical and mechanical function.

  • The Razor LH 3-15 x 42 is a second focal plane (SFP) scope, so the reticle size remains constant at all magnifications (3x – 15x)
  • Adjusting magnification will not affect the sight-in point of the cross-hair center
  • The reticle’s MOA subtensions (hash marks) are accurate as shown in the Subtension drawing ONLY at the maximum magnification of 15X
  • Vertical subtension marks are 2 MOA each (at 15x)
