The 18×56 Razor UHD Binocular from Vortex features a large, light-gathering objective and powerful magnification that brings distant objects close in vivid detail. It can (and should) be used on a tripod which requires an adapter (sold separately).

The Razor UHD renders views with minimal chromatic aberration, exceptional color fidelity, edge-to-edge sharpness, and optimal light transmission through the use of ultra high definition glass, an index-matched lens configuration, XR Plus lens coatings, and phase-correcting prism coatings. The lenses are protected from scratches, oil, and dust by ArmorTek exterior lens coating.

The lightweight magnesium housing is argon filled and sealed with O-rings to ensure reliable and durable protection against dust, debris, fog, and water. It is rubber armored for non-slip and durable protection, and is equipped with a large focusing knob that is easy to use even while wearing gloves. Naturally contoured to perfectly fit your hands, promoting comfort and eliminating user fatigue, the Razor UHD includes a winning combination of features.

Optical Performance

  • 18x magnification
  • 56mm objective lenses
  • Compact roof prisms
  • Ultra high definition glass corrects chromatic and spherical aberrations to eliminate off-axis comas and improve color and contrast
  • Phase-correcting prism coatings improve resolution, clarity, and contrast
  • XR Plus fully multi-coated optics improve light transmission, color rendition, and contrast
  • Wide 67° apparent angle of view

I’ve taken these on a couple trips, one for elk in NV, and on a scouting trip to the San Juan in Utah this summer.  I have been impressed with them optically.  They’re not as bright and lack a little of the contrast and “pop” the image has in the new Swarovski 15×56 SLC, but they’re a really nice long range binocular.  In some cases, the extra magnification is really nice to have especially when you’re looking toward the outer edge of binocular territory (i.e. time to insert Swarovski BTX to your eye sockets).  18X is too much to hand-hold for anyone.  These are strictly tripod glass – don’t kid yourself.  Strap a 10X to your chest and let these ride in your pack until needed.
