KUIU’s Summit Refuge 3 Person Tent is a versatile 3+ season tent/shelter built for modularity and maximum internal space. It provides up to 65 square feet of floor area at an incredibly light weight. Our Summit Refuge tent systems include the fly and the optional mesh tent body with bathtub floor to make a double wall tent, protecting you from the wet ground, bugs, and excessive condensation. This tent kit also includes the optional stove jack, waterproof footprint, and poles. Trail weight varies between just over 1.5 pounds to 4.1 pounds depending on which conveniences and comforts you decide to pack. There’s a zippered entry door at the head and foot of the tent where there are two large vestibules. The seams are fully taped for waterproof protection. It excels as a primary shelter, secondary dry gear storage tarp, or a mobile glassing shelter. Minimalists will appreciate that it can be pitched with just the fly and trekking poles as a roomy, floorless shelter you’ll barely notice in your pack.

The Kuiu Summit Refuge may be Kuiu’s most under-rated item.  I think the lack of fan-fare is likely because it diverges from the typical 3-man dome-tent designs people are more accustomed to seeing and using.  However, this versatile shelter really gives backcountry hunters a myriad of options depending on how cushy or minamalist they want to be for any adventure.

You can run with just the fly and use trekking poles to hold up the canopy for extreme mobility when you’re hauling camp on your back, or you can go full backcountry cabin with the footprint, mesh tent body, and poles.  You can even install the stove-jack and fire up one of our medium titanium stoves to be equippped to weather even the coldest extremes.  What’s not to like about a tent with that kind of flexibility?!!  Guys that use them always speak highly of this shelter, so rent this one and see if you agree!
